Content is King!

While I would never understate the importance of good user-interface design and cutting-edge technology applications - without question when it comes to websites, content is king!

What truly amazes me is the number of people I talk to who don't really believe in the power of their web presence to generate business.  You can see this in their web page content.   While as the saying goes "every generalization is wrong, including this one," I think I can safely say that the people with the most intimate and personal knowledge (as well as passion) of a company's capabilities generally don't have the time to write the content for their website.  You need to have people write the content who can capture that intimacy and passion and understand how content can be used to connect with a company's target audience.

At its most basic level website success is a three legged stool:
1. First, you want compelling design and navigability for your key target audiences - good user interface design and development.
2. Second, use all possible means and technology applications - to push motivated customers to your site, or as one of my partners would say "you can't afford not to be seen".
3. Finally, getting your customers there is critical.  Good user-interface design will enhance their experience at your site but it's the content (not the "bells and whistles"), tailored specifically to the needs of your target audience (s), that will make them look deeply (page views and time on site), enquire (generate leads), buy and return (visitor loyalty).
