Is there anything better than free help, particularly when the help you receive is both incredibly useful and of the highest professional caliber? Back on July 24th, I talked about some of the great resources available for Virginia small businesses but what I failed to mention at that time is that many (most) of these programs are available throughout the country as part of the U.S. Small Business Administration's outreach and support efforts.
I was recently the recipient of some excellent (FREE) advice and counseling through The George Mason University Mason Enterprise Center's Procurement Technical Assistance Program. The mission of PTAP is:
- "To generate employment and improve the general economy of a locality by assisting business firms in obtaining and performing under DoD, other federal agencies, and state and local government contracts;
- To expand the industrial base of the DoD and other federal agencies; to provide a link between the federal government, major prime contractors, and small businesses;
- To provide technical assistance to small businesses interested in federal, state and local government contracting;
- To apply George Mason University resources to improve the business climate and economic development in local communities."
This support is provided throughout the U.S. to assist small businesses in competing for Federal, State and Local Government Contracts.
So whether you're just starting a company or you have been in business for a few years, take the time to use these resources - you will be extremely thankful!!
