I've been given strict instructions that tell me I can't just write blogs but I have to read and comment on others blogs. There are two blogs that I like because I usually learn some "good stuff"; "The Digital Influence Mapping Project" and "The Influential Marketing blog" .
Yesterday John Bell wrote about "5 Steps to Choosing the Right Listening Post Solution". Being an old Army guy I understand "listening posts" and why they are important. Also, to my surprise I knew what CGM (Consumer-Generated Media) was without having to look up the acronym.
What I really liked about the blog was that it was more about strategy than the enabling technology. While there are some really great social media data mining capabilities out there (a company that immediately comes to mind is Zeta Interactive ), when you apply proven strategy and process with enabling technologies you really create a capabilities multiplier.
Don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of best practice technology applications, but it's rare that technology alone, in the absence of proven strategy/process, will solve your business communication needs.
