Another reason to do business in Virginia: CNBC just released the results of its annual study examining the best and worst places in the US to do business.  Based on a selection criterion of 10 categories including cost of business, technology and innovation, education, and business friendliness, CNBC put Virginia at the top of the list after a 2nd place last year.

This does not come as a surprise to those of us working in Virginia. But if it is a surprise to you, maybe it's time you checked out what Virginia has to offer you: for free!

Here are two services that you don't want to miss:

1.    Small Business Administration's Office of Small Business Development Centers: Located in various centrally located braches, they provide assistance to current and future small businesses ranging from financial guidance to business plan aid to marketing guidance.  I have personally used this service and found it to be immensely helpful. (To be honest my expectations were not high but I was mentored by a former CEO/CFO with exceptional credentials - for free.  If you had to pay for this quality of service it would cost  you at least $250/hr or much more) To find a branch near you go to:  (for Virginia)  (for all other states)

2.    Virginia Economic Development Partnership:
Have you thought about exporting? Did you know that VEDP offers a ton of resources (and money towards export related expenses) for free??  Virginia is a national leader in export work and we encourage you to check them out.  As someone working in the export business, it is something that I encourage my customers to utilize and then allow us to fill in only after you have maximized the resources that VEDP offers.  Get started by contacting Jenee Andreev, International Trade Manager at jandreev@YesVirginia.org.
